What attracted you to DESG:
The sponsorship was the initial attraction to the scheme inevitably, however all the other bonuses such as the job when you finish university, the work experience and the chance to work for the MOD in an engineering capacity all influenced my decision to join the scheme.
Highlights of your career to date:
Two weeks sailing around the Mediterranean on a Tall ship with the university support squadron and all the other adventure training opportunities with the support squadron. Working alongside subject matter experts and sharing ideas and information. The levels of responsibility entrusted to myself such as participating in sensitive contractor meetings and being the only resident expert in my job role while on summer placement.
What you hope to achieve in the future:
To work with the MOD and move up to higher management levels in hopefully a weapons or nuclear (or both) anchor. I aim to get the most out of my time with the MOD by taking training courses on offer and building a good network of contacts.
What advice would you give someone thinking of a career in the MOD:
It is a great opportunity and takes the stress off through your studies knowing you have a job lined up at the end of it. The funding through university also removes the burden of the inevitable student debts! The MOD is a company that will always be around, has one of the most reliable pension schemes and is a great addition to anyone’s CV. The work is interesting and has there is such a range of job roles to choose from that there is something for everyone!
